The Miami Transplant Institute at University of Miami Health System
The Miami Transplant Institute at UHealth is considered one of the leading transplant centers in the world with a major role in kidney, liver, intestinal, heart, and pancreas transplantation. It also has unique programs in multi-visceral (multi-organ) and the transplant of insulin-producing cells used to treat diabetes.
The Institute, which performs about 500 transplants each year, is a collaborative endeavor between UHealth/Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and Jackson Memorial Hospital. Working together, The Miami Transplant Institute at UHealth strives to increase access to transplantation and improve quality of life.
In addition to providing hope and help for patients in need of transplants, the medical center has another mandate: to welcome all patients needing transplants, regardless of the organ or disease.
All of UHealth/Miller’s transplant programs are members of the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) hotlink. This is the central agency in the United States that is responsible for equitable allocation of organs. These affiliations provide University of Miami Health System patients with the best opportunities to receive new organs.
